Since completing studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where trombone was his first instrument, John has been involved in performances of a wide variety of music reflecting his eclectic listening taste. He can be heard on CD recordings spanning from early music to orchestral soundtracks, from opera to funk. 
Currently he is playing trombone for Big Vern n The Shootahs.
The City Of Soul project showcasing the fantastic voice of Jim Diamond, is currently available on pre-order with Amazon with the proceeds going to Sir Tom Hunter's Cash For Kids charity. The recording features Wet Wet Wet’s Tommy Cunningham on drums, Hue and Cry’s Greg Kane on keyboards, The Proclaimers bassist Garry John Kane, Brian McFie on guitar (best known for his work with the Big Dish and Marianne Faithful), Stevie Mulhearn on Hammond organ and three tremendous young Glaswegian singers – Tippi, Joe Gallacher and Lynnie Carson. John is delighted to be involved in the project and provided the horn arrangements. The horn section consisted of Dave Macdonald on tenor, Fiona Garvie on alto, Al McGee on trumpet, and John on trombone.

He can also be found playing bass guitar, acoustic and electric guitar and the occasional bit of keyboards for recording projects in between teaching and freelance trombone gigs. The instrumental audio clips at the top of the page feature John on trombone, trumpet, guitar, bass guitar and keyboards. Recording projects are ongoing and a flash player similar to the one above featuring some vocal tracks should be up on this site when the vocal sessions are completed. There will also be some musicians resources posted on the site in due course.
